360-degree Evaluation

360-degree evaluation is a system in which employees receive confidential, anonymous feedback from the people who work around them. Those who complete the survey usually include the employees manager, peers and direct reports. The subject person being rated also fills out the same evaluation about themselves. Organizations use 360-degree evaluations to get a better understanding of the employee, provide training or identify leadership potential. A personal development plan or coaching session typically follows a 360-degree assessment.

Aptitudes are innate, learned or acquired abilities. The purpose of using aptitude assessments is to test perceptions, judgments and reasoning ability. Aptitude assessments predict success as opposed to identifying specific on-the-job knowledge. Examples include mechanical, spatial, numerical, verbal, logical, inductive or abstract reasoning.

Career assessment or interest inventory is a self-assessment tool used in career planning. It assesses one’s likes and dislikes of a variety of activities, objects and types of persons. The premise is that people in the same career have similar interests. They are usually aligned with the Dictionary of Occupational Titles so that individuals can become aware of jobs they may never have considered for themselves.
