Looking for an opportunity in the helping profession? Help people break free from the grip of substance abuse. In this rewarding career, you’ll work with a team of health and social services professionals to provide Substance Use Disorder Counseling services. Through classroom, laboratory and internship experience, you’ll develop skills in assessment, counseling, diagnosis, treatment planning, group facilitation, documentation and crisis management. You’ll also learn about the importance of clients' rights, professional ethics and the complexity of substance use disorders in this rewarding and valuable profession. This degree prepares you for a variety of opportunities in facilities that help individuals with substance use disorders such as clinics, hospitals and community residential facilities, as well as correctional facilities, and various community and social service agencies.
The Substance Use Disorder Counseling program meets the educational requirements for certification by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Licensure in other states varies on a state by state basis. Please contact the individual state licensure departments to find out more about their educational requirements as FVTC is unaware of each individual state's requirements for licensure of Substance Use Disorder Counselors.
