If you love airplanes and electronics, this is the degree program for you. As an aircraft electrician, you'll install, inspect, test, repair, and align communication, navigation and flight control systems. You’ll learn the theory and practice of avionics and gain the skills necessary for a career as an entry-level avionics technician. Spend more than half of your time in hands-on experience with modern avionic systems and associated test equipment. When you're done, you'll be ready for certification by the National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies. Once you earn the Aircraft Electronics degree, with only one additional year of instruction, you can also complete the Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics program. Skills Assessment

An academic skills assessment is required for admission into this program or the following: High School GPA of 2.75 or higher (last 10 years) OR provide completion of associate’s or higher degree OR; 165 or higher on your 2014 series GED tests OR; ACT OR SAT OR Accuplacer OR Companion OR Compass (last 3 years) to waive to the general education level; The cost of the Accuplacer assessment is $15; Catalog #: 94100100; Learn more at www.fvtc.edu/Assessment.

Whether you’re an incoming student, transferring to another two-year college or pursuing your bachelor’s degree, we make it easy for you to seamlessly transfer your credits. With full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, we offer credit transfer agreements with more than 65 two-and four-year colleges.

Transfer In

Many students come to Fox Valley Tech with credits they’ve already earned, either while in high school or at other colleges and universities. It’s also possible to be granted credit for career-related knowledge and skills you’ve already mastered.

Transfer Out

Is a four-year degree in your future? Save time and money by starting here. You can earn your associate degree at Fox Valley Tech, then apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Or easily transfer your credits to other two-year colleges.

Program Outcomes

• Comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations governing Aviation Maintenance Technicians.
• Demonstrate proper use of standard avionics electronics test equipment.
• Demonstrate recommended safety procedures when working on aircraft.
• Utilize documentation while performing avionics tasks.

Additional Information

Due to FAA regulations regarding attendance and minimum grading requirements, you may not be able to transfer previously completed mathematics or physics courses into this program. If you plan to take any courses prior to entry into this program, please request required documents prior to enrolling in those courses. Contact Dennis Moehn at 920-232-6005 for details.

Online and IVC courses are not accepted for this program.

A prerequisite for employment as an avionics technician is the General Radiotelephone Operator's License, which is issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) upon successful completion of the FCC exam.

You may choose to also complete the Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics program at Fox Valley Technical College with only one additional year of instruction.
