Healthcare Customer Service Representative

As a Healthcare Customer Service Representative, you’ll be working with patients in a healthcare setting. You’ll learn to provide excellent customer service by not only meeting but exceeding customer needs. Your training will include an understanding of medical terminology, communication skills, the use of technology in healthcare and the culture of healthcare.

    The focus of this course is the use of technology in healthcare. Learners use common business software applications, including word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and databases. Communication methods using technology are addressed. Learners gain experience with using the electronic health record (EHR). Healthcare EHR security issues, social media use, and digital healthcare resources are examined.

    Focuses on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Students practice formation, analysis and reconstruction of terms. Emphasis on spelling, definition and pronunciation. Introduction to operative, diagnostic, therapeutic and symptomatic terminology of all body systems, as well as systemic and surgical terminology.

    Prereq: Student has completed or is in process of completing ANY of the following options:

    • Student is in progress in Medical Assistant (31-509-1) Program of Study

    • Student is in progress in Healthcare Customer Service Representative (61-509-1) Program of Study

    • Student is not in progress in Associate Degree, Apprenticeship, or Technical Diploma (31 or 32 level)
