A career as a practical nurse can be a rewarding opportunity to provide caring medical support to individuals and families across the lifespan. You’ll learn how to assist with health assessments and medication administration, and will have ample opportunities for hands-on experience to develop your clinical skills. You’ll also learn about drug classifications and their effect on the body, as well as the promotion of healthy lifestyles. An emphasis on critical thinking and communications will help you become a skilled nurse who is able to adapt to a variety of environments and work with diverse patient populations. Under supervision you’ll be able to manage and direct care in various health care settings. When you complete the diploma you’ll be eligible to take the national licensing exam.

Admissions Requirements

PN TEAS Score Requirements

A TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) composite score of 50 or above is required for admission to the Pre-Practical Nursing Program.

With full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, we offer credit transfer agreements with more than 65 two-and four-year colleges.

Many students come to Fox Valley Tech with credits they’ve already earned, either while in high school or at other colleges and universities. It’s also possible to be granted credit for career-related knowledge and skills you’ve already mastered.

Is a four-year degree in your future? Save time and money by starting here. You can earn your associate degree at Fox Valley Tech, then apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Or easily transfer your credits to other two-year colleges.

Additional Information
This program is certified by the Licensed Practical Nurse Wisconsin Department of Health/Board of Nursing. The national passing score is 83%. In 2014, FVTC graduates had a passing score of 95%.

Graduates of Fox Valley Technical College's Practical Nursing program are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses.

Criminal activity reported will be communicated to healthcare agencies which provide student clinical and internship opportunities. Healthcare agencies have the legal right to deny a clinical or internship experience based on crimes committed. Completion of your program cannot be guaranteed if your criminal history precludes you from completing any clinical or internship experience.
Even though you will be admitted in to one of the nursing programs upon completion of the above requirements, you will not be eligible for core nursing courses until you show completion of a Nursing Assistant (DHFS approved) class to staff in Room E121 on the Appleton campus.
You will be required to complete a Criminal Background Check prior to any internship or clinical experience.
There is an estimated wait time of up to one year AFTER your admit term to enter occupational specific courses; while waiting to start occupational specific courses, you may choose to take general education and elective courses required for your degree or diploma program.
Students must submit a Health History Form, including required immunizations, to the FVTC Health Services office (A164) by the start of occupational specific coursework; to access the form, please go to
