Want a career in the dynamic field of health care, but without the patient interaction? With this degree, you deal more with the patient's health care information than with patients. You’ll learn how to collect, code, manage and maintain the health data necessary for proper reimbursement, statistical and quality purposes. You’ll learn how to manage electronic health information in an electronic health record (EHR). You’ll train on current coding and chart management software and you’ll gain valuable field experience that will be helpful as you seek employment.

Whether you’re an incoming student, transferring to another two-year college or pursuing your bachelor’s degree, we make it easy for you to seamlessly transfer your credits. With full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, we offer credit transfer agreements with more than 65 two-and four-year colleges.

Many students come to Fox Valley Tech with credits they’ve already earned, either while in high school or at other colleges and universities. It’s also possible to be granted credit for career-related knowledge and skills you’ve already mastered.

Is a four-year degree in your future? Save time and money by starting here. You can earn your associate degree at Fox Valley Tech, then apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Or easily transfer your credits to other two-year colleges.

Additional Information
The Health Information Technology program is accredited by the [Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)]( Program graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Graduates who pass the exam may use the AHIMA credential Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).


The Health Information Technology (HIT) program follows a two-year curriculum based on current competencies outlined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

An internship is required with this program. The internship is a supervised, **unpaid** clinical experience.

You must have approved documentation of required immunizations and TB testing prior to enrollment into Internship.

Criminal activity reported will be communicated to healthcare agencies which provide student clinical and internship opportunities. Healthcare agencies have the legal right to deny a clinical or internship experience based on crimes committed. Completion of your program cannot be guaranteed if your criminal history precludes you from completing any clinical or internship experience.
You will be required to complete a Criminal Background Check prior to taking two classes: Professional Practice Experience I and Professional Practice Experience II; and prior to any internship or clinical experience.
Your first year program classes are offered at both the Oshkosh and Appleton campuses.
