War in Ukraine is Teaching Moment for Agriculture Students

Price and availability of crop fertilizer impacted by conflict

The ongoing war in Ukraine is having a trickle-down effect on Wisconsin farmers. As they get ready for planting season, there is growing concern over the cost and availability of crop fertilizer, much of which comes from Ukraine and Russia.

However, what is challenging for farmers has also become an exceptional learning environment for Fox Valley Tech students enrolled in Agriculture-related programs. Spectrum News 1 recently came to campus to learn how that’s the case.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve had increases in fertilizer and input costs, but to have it happen while they’re students here,” explains Agribusiness Science & Technology instructor Jason Fischer. “It’s awesome teaching moments because these things come and they go, and they come back again and the more we teach them now, the better prepared our students will be.”
