Dr. Morna Foy visits FVTC campus as part of her “Tour of Excellence” project

| By: LaVigne, Anna M

As the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) prepares to welcome Layla Merrifield as its next president on September 9, FVTC was fortunate to welcome outgoing president Dr. Morna Foy to campus earlier this year as part of her “Tour of Excellence” project.

In March, Dr. Foy announced her plans to retire after serving as WTCS president since 20-12. As she prepared for her retirement, she kicked off a year-long project to visit all 16 WTCS campuses during the 2023-24 academic year.

During her tour of the Public Safety Training Center, she met with students and faculty and participated in hands-on training exercises as part of a Women in Public Safety event taking place at the PSTC during her visit.

This event provided high school students and Dr. Floy with the chance to learn about career paths in fields such as Fire Safety, EMS and Forensic Science, all of which are in high demand in the community.

Foy had the opportunity to learn from instructors about the process of obtaining traditional smooth surface fingerprints, how to suit up in full fire protective gear and the proper use of equipment.

FVTC had one more surprise for Foy during her visit—she got to operate a 2018 Pierce Quantum cab truck that stands 11 feet tall, is 36 feet long and weighs 49,000 pounds, and we have to say, she drove it like a pro.

"This is just an amazing facility," said Foy about the training grounds.
