Why did you choose the Farm Operations career program?
Growing up on a farm made me realize at a young age that working with my family on a farm was my dream. With technology always changing, I knew that the Farm Operations Technician program was a good place to learn new skills that I could take back and apply on our farm.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
The best thing I learned at FVTC that I can take back to the farm is what I learned in my shop class and how to maintain equipment and set up combines and planters.
Another class taught me a lot about artificial insemination, or AI breeding, and learning to recognize certain signs from the heifers that are important for breeding.
Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I chose FVTC because of the convenience of it being so close to home. This allowed me to work both before, and after classes on the farm. I also know multiple people who attended FVTC and loved their experience, so I knew it is a good place for my education.
How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?
The friendships that I have gained while going to school here are by far the best part for me. One day I might need a second hand around the farm and I know that these are the people I can count on.
What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
I plan to take all the knowledge I have gained through FVTC and use it as I continue to work on my uncle's farm.
In one sentence, what's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college?
Just go out and do it. When I was growing up, I never thought that college would be a good fit for me, but I am glad that I did it! I gained lifelong friendships and knowledge through this experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
