Why did you choose to study this field?
I have always been fascinated by the natural world; I feel compelled to use my passion to be a steward of our natural resources for the glory of God and the benefit of my community.
Tell us how you came to choose FVTC for your education.
I chose Fox Valley Tech because it offers the only Natural Resources Technician program in the state. FVTC is also very affordable and close to home, so I knew that I would receive high-quality instruction while also staying within my budget.
What's been the most rewarding part of your educational journey at FVTC?
Participating in hands-on fieldwork each semester with my instructors and professionals in the field was incredibly rewarding. Some of my most memorable moments included banding ducks and netting fish with the DNR and becoming a member of a wildland fire crew.
What was the most difficult part?
Juggling school, work and personal commitments was a challenge. I strive to always do my best, but I slowly learned that it’s okay to take a break to spend time with family and friends. Rest is necessary!
What will you do on graduation day or in the future to celebrate graduation?
I'm planning to celebrate with a small group of family and friends on the day of my commencement. I'm sure I will also feel like celebrating once I finally catch up on some sleep after my late-night homework sessions!
Tell us about your plans after graduation.
This semester I’ve been working for Fond du Lac County as a Conservation Engineering Technician, and I’ll begin full time after graduation. I’m also planning to work toward a Conservation Agronomy certificate to help build my understanding of agriculture as I work with farmers on the job.
One last parting thought or words of wisdom to share with others.
Strive for maximums, not minimums. This mantra was passed down to me from my mom when I was a little girl... Pursuing it has never let me down.
