NARI shines the spotlight on FVTC students

FVTC Interior Design program students got a chance to show off their upcycling skills during a recent event hosted by NARI of Northeast Wisconsin (National Association of the Remodeling Industry).

Students in the Fundamentals of Design class were challenged to repurpose an item from the Appleton Habitat for Humanity ReStore using design and sustainability concepts learned in class.

In February, the students visited the ReStore where they chose an item to restore. Each student received $20 worth of gift cards from the ReStore and Michael's Craft Store (donated by Habitat for Humanity) to put toward tools, embellishments, hardware, paint, etc. for their projects.

The completed projects were displayed and auctioned at NARI’s April meeting, with the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Fox Cities Area.

Four students from three FVTC programs also received scholarships through NARI this spring: this year’s scholarship recipients were Emma Kolar, Interior Design and Kitchen & Bath Design programs; Chue Lee, Residential Building Construction program; Autumn Kaufman, Residential Building Construction program; and Owen Kucharski, Woodworking Technology program.
