Why did you choose this career program?

I decided to study this field because I love everything related to healthcare and helping people. Since I was a kid, I dreamed about becoming a health professional. I was fortunate to become a dentist in Venezuela, where I practiced for 11 years prior to moving to the United States. This field has brought me so much joy, so I am very excited to become a dental hygienist and return to the field which I feel passionate about.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding? 

The most rewarding feeling is seeing my patients happy by recovering their oral health after a treatment I have provided. This is the best gift I can receive.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College? 

I chose FVTC because it offers a competitive, complete, and accessible hygienist program, even though it is a highly demanding course load.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

As a foreign-trained dentist, FVTC has offered me the opportunity to get back in the field by becoming a dental hygienist. This opportunity is an important milestone in this exciting new chapter of my life. The FVTC health science team has provided me with constant support during the admissions process as well as my time here as a student. I will always be grateful for it.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation? 

I expect to work as a dental hygienist and to continue developing my knowledge in the dentistry field.

In one sentence, what's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college? 

The perfect time does not exist to begin pursuing your goals. Be brave and go for it. It’s never too late for a new beginning.
