New Simultaneous Nursing Degree Option
Nursing students in northeastern Wisconsin can save time and money through a bachelor’s degree program announced by Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) and Herzing University.
Starting in January, the partnership will allow students to concurrently pursue an Associate degree in Nursing at FVTC and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at Herzing. Participating students will take elective courses at FVTC that also apply to their BSN at Herzing. Upon completing their associate degree, they can enroll into Herzing’s one-year, online RN-to-BSN pathway.
“This is a great opportunity for students who come straight to Fox Valley Tech and know they want to eventually earn a BSN,” said Barbara Timmons, department chair of the Nursing program at FVTC. “In this program, they’re saving money by taking classes at a community college and graduating faster by taking applicable elective courses.”
The program is designed to fill an immediate and long-term need for more nurses in Wisconsin. For example, the Wisconsin Center for Nursing projects that there could be 20,000 open nursing positions in the state by 2035. Nationally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for registered nurses will grow by 15% through 2026.
“We’re proud to provide northeast Wisconsin students with clear paths to advance their nursing education and career,” said Herzing-Brookfield Campus President Jarvis Racine. “As a career-focused school, our objective is to help students reach their goals in an efficient and effective manner, and we have no doubt that FVTC students will find that this online BSN offering helps accomplish that.”
Herzing also offers dual credit options that allow RN-to-BSN students to take up to four graduate courses that will satisfy their program requirements. These courses also count toward a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program with Herzing, providing another opportunity for students to control costs and save time.
FVTC provides a state-of-the-art virtual hospital setting for students in its three-story Health Simulation Technology Center, which opened in 2013. The college’s nursing programs are nationally-renowned, according to students’ performance on the mandatory National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX. In 2017, FVTC ranked number one out of more than 2,700 schools nationwide based on the exam results.
Herzing University's RN-to-BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), acknowledging that Herzing's nursing programs meet specific national standards.
FVTC as a college has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1974, and its nursing programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
