Fox Valley Technical College is excited to offer a unique opportunity for prospective truck drivers. Thanks to a $28,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), FVTC can now offer financial assistance to 12 participants interested in pursuing Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A training.

This grant will slash tuition costs by 50% for participants enrolling at FVTC's Chilton, Clintonville, or Wautoma Regional Centers.

“This grant allows us to focus specifically on our FVTC Regional Centers and our relationships in those communities,” explains Rob Behnke, director of Truck Driving programs. “Barriers to a quality career often include cost and the length of training. This grant significantly reduces both those barriers. It creates a fantastic opportunity to get to the industry more quickly without giving up quality levels of training.”

Eligible students will start by taking an online self-paced theory class, followed by a hands-on 4-week Behind the Wheel class in a manual Transmission Class A Commercial Vehicle. Students initially cover the program costs but will receive a reimbursement for half of the course fees once they complete the program.

FVTC is among 17 colleges and organizations sharing a $468,000 grant from DWD, aimed at increasing the number of CDL license holders in Wisconsin, where truck driving is one of the most in-demand occupations. The DWD highlights that approximately 6,000 positions are posted annually on the Job Center of Wisconsin website.

Training kicks off on May 27^th and must be completed by June 30^th. Spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
