This year’s state SkillsUSA competitions in Madison saw the likes of one college taking first, second, and third place in a single event.
That team was Fox Valley Technical College. Dominic Opsteen of Appleton took first-place in the Power Equipment Technology category, while Caleb Deyoung placed second, also from Appleton, and Hartford, Wisconsin’s Elora Diehl earned third place in the same event.
In addition, students Daniel Montoya, Medellin, Columbia, and Brian Wendelborn, Kewaskum, also earned top three awards. Montoya placed second in the Marine category and Wendelborn took home third in the Motorcycle event. All first-place winners from the state competition will advance to the national SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville in June to further put their skills to the test.
Founded in 1965, SkillsUSA is a nationwide organization dedicated to building skill sets in high school and college students for careers in various trade industries. The organization is comprised of more than 600 partners and has served 12.5 million annual members since its inception.
