Two former NCAA Division 1 basketball players connected on Wednesday, January 13 to share success stories both on and off the court for the Fox Valley Technical College men’s basketball team.

Jonathan Patton, a 2013 graduate of FVTC’s Package & Label Printing program, joined new Foxes Head Coach Jamal Mosley for a pregame talk with student athletes on a number of topics related to life skills before the team’s matchup with UW-Fox Valley.

Patton’s experience in basketball is extensive. He won a national junior college championship with Redlands Community College in Oklahoma in 2002, and in 2005 started in an NCAA Division 1 tournament game. In that March Madness game, Patton had 15 points at halftime for 15-seed Southeastern Louisiana, but a second half injury sidelined him while his team fell to second-seeded Oklahoma State. Later, he played in the NBA Development League on contract with the Dallas Mavericks before again succumbing to an injury, ending his formal basketball career.

In his post basketball career, Patton has spent several years working in various supervisory and consulting roles for the manufacturing sector, along with owning and operating a popular downtown Green Bay sports lounge, Cover 2, where he features a diverse selection of wines on behalf of his brother and football icon, Charles Woodson.

The event on Wednesday connected Coach Mosley to Patton by way of Jamal’s basketball experience in Division 1 with the University of Texas-San Antonio. Mosley also coaches the FVTC women’s basketball team. The FVTC student athletes received an inspirational talk, led by Patton, on leadership, learning from failure, relationship-building, education, and more.

Since Mr. Patton’s motivational speech, the FVTC Foxes men’s basketball team has won four straight games.
