Open House Event Goes Virtual

Open House Event Goes Virtual

| By: Britten, Casey

Social distancing won’t keep residents from pursuing career options as Fox Valley Technical College’s annual fall Open House goes virtual. In typical years, the college would hold in-person open houses at all regional campus locations, but leaders made the decision to take the event online.

“Our goal is to continue to provide access to the variety of programs offered through FVTC, but to also keep prospective students and staff safe and healthy,” said Dr. Christopher Matheny, executive vice president and chief academic officer for FVTC. “Our highly engaging event will provide all the information needed to enroll in the next semester of classes or next Summer or Fall and provide social distancing required in this time of pandemic,” Matheny said.

This is the first time FVTC has taken the popular event online. Rather than using a popular platform such as Zoom, the college is using a web based platform that will allow multiple users from a variety of locations. During the online event, prospective students can take a virtual tour of the Appleton campus, chat or have a phone call with faculty, staff, and current students. Free informational sessions are available on a range of topics:

How to Choose a Degree, 2:30-3 p.m. and 4-4:30 p.m.
Potential students can learn more about how FVTC’s Career Counselors can help navigate the career decision-making process and choose a program that is appropriate for individuals.

Paying for College, 3-3:30 p.m. and 4:30-5 p.m.
Individuals can learn what is available to help finance a college education including scholarships, student loans and federal student aid.

How to be a Successful Student 3:30-4 p.m. and 5-5:30 p.m.
From online to in-person classes and everything in-between, FVTC will review the variety of learning formats open to students.

Explore Starting a Business 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Get an inside look at what it takes to launch a small business from the top entrepreneur program in the region, the Venture Center at Fox Valley Technical College.

In addition, for anyone who is a high school senior and older, applicants can save $30 if they apply for admission during the Open House. All applicants will have a chance to win one of three $200 tuition gift certificates. Winners will be notified within a week following the event.

If guests are not able to attend the Open House, the FVTC Admissions team is available to answer questions by calling 920-735-4740, texting 920-294-1738 or by email at admissionsSpecialist@fvtc.edu.
