New Resources for Parents of FVTC Students

New Resources for Parents of FVTC Students

| By: Britten, Casey

As part of a strategic effort to better serve our students, Fox Valley Technical College has launched new resources specifically designed to better communicate helpful information with parents and family members.

A Parent & Family Portal provides quick information and allows members to join a community of other family members who support their student’s education. Members can join communities that are unique to their experience, such as military-affiliated/veteran families, student housing information, and families of first-generation students. Parents can also find important reminders and helpful tips on topics like financial aid, credit transfer and counseling. Sign up >

In addition, parents and family members of current and future students are invited to join the Official FVTC Parents Group on Facebook. This private group is a place where parents can ask questions and share information parent-to-parent. Request to join >

Research indicates that when families are involved, college students’ success rates rise, especially among low-income and first-generation students. According to education consulting firm EAB, first-generation students whose parents were involved in the college search process were 22% more likely to stay enrolled for their first year than students without parental involvement.

“We want to do everything we can to make sure our students are successful,” says FVTC Vice President for Student Success Elizabeth Burns. “We know that when students feel supported by their families, they are more invested in their education.”
