Move Over Top Chef High school culinary students compete for FVTC scholarships Monday, December 6, 2021 | By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M Sixteen high school students representing six area school districts brought their culinary skills to Fox Valley Technical College to compete in a cooking/baking throwdown. Entered in either a burger or cake category, the students worked under deadline to prepare their food in the FVTC kitchen labs and then submitted their entry to the college’s Culinary instructors for consideration. The event awarded the top three finishers in each category with a scholarship to FVTC. It was also a great opportunity for prospective students to get a first-hand look at the Culinary program. “We really wanted to solidify what our culinary department would be,” said Gary Lyons, culinary instructor at FVTC. “Also, we’re starting an associate degree in baking and pastry, so we wanted to invite those students that are interested in baking a pastry to be able to compete as well.” WBAY coverage >> FVTC hosts cooking competition for high school chefs WLUK coverage >> Students put cooking, baking skills to the test in FVTC’s burger and cake competition Creating a More Sustainable Campus Best of Both Worlds Tags: baking Culinary Related articles Open House: Getting Ready for the Biggest Event of the Year Focus on Careers: Enrollment, New Programs and AI in Education Celebrating our Graduates: Jessica Meier Celebrating our Graduates: Michael Vande Voort Holiday Baking Taken to a New Level
