High Stakes Competition in the Culinary Kitchen

High school students compete for scholarships

| By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M

Fox Valley Technical College recently welcomed students from several area schools to compete in the 2022 high school culinary competition.

Each year, students apply to compete in either an ultimate burger category or cake category. The competitors then come to campus and are given the chance to demonstrate their culinary knowledge, skills and creative abilities while cooking in the Fox Valley Technical College’s culinary kitchens. FVTC Culinary Arts instructors observe students while they cook or assemble their cake and judge the finished products.

This year’s competition brought in high school students from Kimberly, Menasha, Plymouth, Oshkosh West, Wild Rose and Wisconsin Dells.

Scholarships were awarded to the top three overall competitors in each category. First-place finishers received a $300 scholarship; second place received a $200 scholarship and third place received a $100 scholarship. The winners:

Burgers

  • 1st place: Liam Sullivan – Kimberly
  • 2nd place: Eli Kaulaity – Plymouth
  • 3rd place: Caleb Martel – Plymouth

Cake:

  • 1st place: Bree Hartley – Wisconsin Dells
  • 2nd place:  Amara Kessler – Oshkosh West
  • 3rd place:  Haley Tennessen – Kimberly
