FVTC Employees: A Chance of Awesome

FVTC Employees: A Chance of Awesome

In-service event focuses on ditching adultitis

| By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M

Who doesn’t enjoy learning a new term to add to their vocabulary? During a semi-annual in-service day, FVTC employees learned what adultitis is all about and the dreaded symptoms that can accompany it.

In a short presentation by Kim and Jason Kotecki of Escape Adulthood, employees were encouraged to take a look inside themselves and look for signs of adultitis: a common condition occurring in people between the ages of 21-121 and marked by symptoms ranging from high stress and fear of change to chronic dullness and an inability to smile.

Many of these symptoms have likely been exacerbated by the challenges faced in 2020. The message to employees: now is the time to embrace the new year and take deliberate, positive steps to shed adultitis. Some of those steps involve being logical and adult-like; other steps require giving yourself permission to return to your childhood passions and memories to refresh your thinking. And possibly, bring back your smile.

Most importantly, the message to staff is to remember there’s a choice of whether we allow adultitis to hang around in 2021.

“As we’ve learned in the past year, we can’t control how things happen, but we can control how we react to things,” Jason said. “We have a choice on how we choose to bounce back.”

Check out Dr. May's blog for more about the in-service presentation. You can also learn more about adultitis at Escape Adulthood.
