Class of 2024 Earns High School Credentials

52 students celebrate educational milestone

| By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M

The Adult Education department recently hosted a boisterous celebration for 52 students who earned their high school diplomas.

The graduates had been working over the past year to secure their high school credentials in one of two ways: some graduates completed the General Education Development credential, which is more commonly known as the GED. Other graduates completed the Wisconsin High School Equivalency Diploma, commonly identified as the HSED.

This was the 35th year of the High School Completion Ceremony and the first one to be held in person since 2020 when the pandemic canceled on-campus gatherings. The program is in high demand; approximately 450 students, ranging in age from 18 to 65, completed their high school credentials over the past three years.

The program included remarks by Dr. Jennifer Lanter, Vice President of Learning and Chief Academic Officer, and student speaker Mai Yer Thao, who is continuing her education at FVTC.

The college offers education for high school completion at its regional centers and campuses, in addition to other community-based sites throughout the district.
