Why did you choose to study this field?

I believe it’s important for young boys and girls who look like me to know that we belong in this field, and that we can be a part of the change we would like to see in the world. I also enjoy this career field because there is always so much to learn about the criminal justice system.

Tell us how you came to choose FVTC for your education.

After attending my first open house at FVTC during my senior year of high school I knew this was going to be the college for me. The instructors were so warm and welcoming and provided me with an abundance of resources to succeed.

What's been the most rewarding part of your educational journey at FVTC?

The most rewarding part of my journey was learning from some of the most passionate and brilliant people I’ve ever met. FVTC does an amazing job hiring people who care about their students and the outcomes of our future. It has been an honor to attend this school and make friends along the way. Additionally, it was amazing to go on my first trip out of the country for the study abroad trip to Ireland.

What was the most difficult part?

It’s been challenging to manage my time between work, school and personal life. All the difficulties have been worth it though, and I wouldn't trade it for anything because it has made me more a more resilient and well-rounded professional.

What will you do on graduation day or in the future to celebrate graduation?

The weekend of graduation I will be hosting a party with all of my friends and loved ones to celebrate such a big victory for my family. I am the first of my mother’s children to graduate college!

Tell us about your plans after graduation.

Eventually I plan to continue my education by going to a four-year university to earn a bachelor’s degree in social work, which will then lead into my future career in juvenile intake. Prior to that I will be applying for jobs involving working with youth.

One last parting thought or words of wisdom to share with others.

Never give up on yourself, trust the journey and be kind!
