Admissions

Skills Assessment

An academic skills assessment is required for admission into this program or the following: High School GPA of 2.75 or higher (last 10 years) OR provide completion of associate’s or higher degree OR; 165 or higher on your 2014 series GED tests OR; ACT OR SAT OR Accuplacer OR Companion OR Compass (last 3 years) to waive to the general education level; The cost of the Accuplacer assessment is $15; Catalog #: 94100100; Learn more at www.fvtc.edu/Assessment.

Additional Information

FAA requirements must be met for all curriculum shared by the Aircraft Electronics and Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics programs.

Transfer credit, for previously completed courses, must be evaluated to ensure that they meet the curriculum requirements. Contact Dennis Moehn at 920-232-6005 for details.

Online and IVC courses are not accepted for this program.

Many employers require additional licensing/certification for employment as an Avionics Technician. The General Radiotelephone Operator's License (GROL), issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), or the National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT) Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification are the two most common licenses/certification.

You may choose to also complete the Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics program at Fox Valley Technical College with only one additional year of instruction.

Program Outcomes

  • Comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations governing Aviation Maintenance Technicians.
  • Demonstrate proper use of standard avionics electronics test equipment.
  • Demonstrate recommended safety procedures when working on aircraft.
  • Utilize documentation while performing avionics tasks.
