Why did you choose the Nursing career program?

I love helping people and nursing is one of the professions where you can help people in their most vulnerable moments. I like to learn new things and challenge myself and nursing allows me to do that every day. Finally, nursing is a high-demand career with diverse opportunities and almost unlimited growth potential.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I believe nursing is one of the most rewarding professions because you get the satisfaction of knowing you are taking care of people and helping them. I also enjoy the team aspect of nursing, as well as all of the growth opportunities.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose Fox Valley Technical College because I believe it offers the most effective and affordable career degrees. All the hands-on experience they provide is excellent, and the instructors are friendly, supportive and always there to help. At FVTC, the classes are small so you get to be more attentive and work closely with your instructors. FVTC also has many support services and clubs available to students that I would recommend to everyone.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

Fox Valley Tech has changed my life tremendously. Previously, I was a biology major at UW Oshkosh but transferred to FVTC to start my Certified Nursing Assistant degree. My instructors here advised me on a path to get my Associate Degree in Nursing from Fox Valley Tech, then transfer my credits to a university to start working on my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This pathway has saved me an incredible amount of money.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to work in a surgical unit for a year or so, and then start looking for a traveling nurse position. After that, I plan to go back to school for a BSN and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from UWO.

In one sentence, what's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college?

Take your time and figure out what you want to do. It will be so much easier and fun to study what you have a passion for, rather than just studying what you don’t like. Stay focused, stay hydrated and keep fighting!

Lightning Round!

Best on-campus place to study: In the library

One class you surprisingly enjoyed: Management and Professional Clinical

One class that challenged you: Nursing Advanced Skills

One thing every FVTC student must experience on campus before graduating: The pizza from the cafeteria!

Pro-tip for newcomers trying to find their way around campus: The halls in the different areas of the college are organized by letters to show you where you are. If that doesn't help though, just ask someone for help and they are always happy to help!
