Why did you choose the Business Analyst program?

I've been working for a long time and had been considering several different paths, but I always found my current roles the first to be eliminated during downsizing. I wanted a degree in a functional area that would be more secure for the future. When I started researching the Business Analyst role, I found that I enjoyed all parts of it and was very interesting. I really enjoy having a more "big picture" view of the business, and seeing how everything fits together.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I found out that I actually do really enjoy the role a BA fulfills! In my career, the times I've felt the most excited about work was when I have been working on a project that will improve processes for colleagues. Increasing productivity is something I find really rewarding because it feels like solving a puzzle!

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose FVTC because they had the most programs at an affordable cost, as well as being supportive for students and accredited. Accreditation was really important for me.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

I have gained so much confidence, knowledge and skills, and my education here has reinforced the skills I was unaware I had! I was never a great student, and through this experience, I managed to earn an invite to the Honor Society, which is huge for me. This experience has taught me that I am capable of earning a degree and that there are infinite options for me.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I am currently employed, and I'm hoping to be able to move into a role to use my degree, and I know that my company has plans... unfortunately they haven't told me what those quite are yet! But, I do believe I will be in an analyst role with my current company within the year.

In one sentence, what's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college?

To sound cliché, just do it! Start small, take one or two classes a semester if you need to. Knowledge and a degree are things that you earn that can't be taken from you, and will make life a lot easier and, most importantly, give you options!
