Rich Thompson is employed with Illinois Tool Works’ Global Welding Division, Miller Electric in Appleton as Vice President of Marketing-North America. The responsibilities for the business include providing strategic leadership, guidance and a forward looking perspective in marketing and brand management for their $1.9 billion welding portfolio (Miller®, Hobart®, and others). Rich has been at ITW for 3.5 years and prior to joining ITW, he spent 25 years in business management, sales and marketing roles for a wide array of well-known products and brands for DuPont and Newell Rubbermaid. Among his assignments were two notable roles; marketing leader for the Teflon® brand at DuPont for various consumer applications and general management for several well-known cookware brands, Mirro®, AirBake and WearEver® while at Newell Rubbermaid. His work in marketing has been recognized by various organizations including Advertising Age, the American Marketing Association, and the North American EFFIE Awards.
Rich holds a BA in Communication Arts from Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Massachusetts.
Rich has two children; Mitchell, who is 16 and a junior at DePere High School and Aubrie, who is 14 and in the 8th grade at DePere Middle School. Rich and his family reside in DePere. He enjoys the outdoors, bass fishing, automobile restoration, and antique outboard collecting.
