Knowing you can make a positive difference in the life of a patient is at the core of this rewarding career. As a member of the emergency medical services team, you will learn how to evaluate the nature and extent of various illnesses and injuries, and administer prescribed medical treatment at the site and during transport. You’ll learn the knowledge and skills to respond to and treat cardiac arrest and critical medical and trauma situations. After successful completion, you will qualify for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic certification examinations and will be eligible for Wisconsin licensure.

Credit Transfer Options

Whether you’re an incoming student, transferring to another two-year college or pursuing your bachelor’s degree, we make it easy for you to seamlessly transfer your credits. With full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, we offer credit transfer agreements with more than 65 two-and four-year colleges.

Transfer In

Many students come to Fox Valley Tech with credits they’ve already earned, either while in high school or at other colleges and universities. It’s also possible to be granted credit for career-related knowledge and skills you’ve already mastered.

Is a four-year degree in your future? Save time and money by starting here. You can earn your associate degree at Fox Valley Tech, then apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Or easily transfer your credits to other two-year colleges.

Program Outcomes
  • Function in a basic level of prehospital emergency care doing the following: assessment of patients, cardiac and respiratory assessment skills, care of trauma/medical patients using advanced airway management skills, with greater scope of responsibility with blood glucose monitoring and administration of specific medications.
  • Functions under protocols for emergency patient care.
  • Possesses critical thinking and decision making skills in the provision of prehospital care and in selected emergency room settings.
  • Take a leadership role at the emergency scene as the highest level of emergency care provider present.
  • Makes inter-facility transfers of patients within defined protocols.
  • Provide specialty skills in providing airway management, I.e. C-PAP.
  • Prepared to take and be successful on the National Registry of EMT.
  • Employed in ambulance services, emergency rooms or as safety directors in business and industry.
Additional Information
Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic written and practical examinations, a licensing prerequisite in Wisconsin and many other states.

This program is also a prerequisite for advanced pre-hospital training programs such as Advanced EMT, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic.

You will be required to complete a Certified Background Check for clinical and field experience as well as state licensure.

A current American Heart Association healthcare CPR provider card is required.

You will be required to submit a current Wisconsin driver record abstract received directly from Wisconsin Department of Transportation;
