A pipe fabricator typically works in a fabrication shop with overhead cranes and hoists, a variety of hand tools, grinders and cutting equipment. In this apprenticeship program, you’ll learn how to install pipe, weld carbon steel and stainless steel pipe, and do layout work for pipe, vessels and tanks. You’ll also learn heat treating and weld inspection, along with blueprint reading, math, metallurgy, spool drawings, pipe flanges and arc flash. Your training will help you become a skilled welder. This program requires you to first be employed and involves five years of on-the-job training and related instruction.
